What is wood dye?
Wood Dyes in a variety of types and numbers. According to the dyeing principle, in order to facilitate the penetration of dye molecules into wood, it is advisable to select wood dyes with small molecular weight, high water solubility, good leveling properties and good color fastness. The main types include wood orange dye, wood red dye, wood blue dye, wood black dye, etc. The dyed wood has bright color, strong color and easy to operate.
What are the factors affecting wood dye dyeing?
1. The influence of temperature on wood dyeing
The increase of dye solution temperature is conducive to accelerating the dyeing speed of wood; but too high temperature will form uneven dyeing of the surface core layer of wood, and color flower phenomenon is prone to occur.
2. The influence of pH value of dye solution on wood dyeing
The pH value of the dye solution affects the dispersion degree of wood dye in water and the speed of combination with wood. The pH value of the dye solution is small, the dyeing time is short, the dyeing is uniform and stable, and the color difference is small, but the corrosion to wood is large, and the strength of wood is significantly reduced; the pH value of the dye solution is high, the dyeing time is long, and the color difference is large. The color fastness of the dyed wood is unstable, easy to fade, and the strength of wood does not change significantly.
3. The influence of dye liquor concentration on wood dyeing
The solubility of acid dyes in a strong acid bath is greatly increased, and the dyed color of wood becomes darker as the dye concentration increases. Therefore, it is common for the surface layer of dyed wood to be darker, the core layer to be lighter, and the surface color to be produced. In this regard, adding dyeing aids can effectively inhibit the solubility of dyes, slow down the degree of ionization of pigment acid molecules in water, maintain the dynamic balance of dye liquor concentration, and thus obtain dyed wood with consistent color. When dyeing wood into dark colors, the amount of vanadium sulfate added can be less; when dyeing light colors, the amount of vanadium sulfate added should be more.
4. The influence of wood species and dyeing time on wood dyeing
The density of the wood determines the dyeing time. Wood with higher density requires longer dyeing time and is harder to dye evenly; wood with lower density requires shorter dyeing time and achieves better uniformity. Therefore, medium to soft hardwoods with lower density are more suitable for wood dyeing.
