Organic pigments are a type of pigment made from organic compounds that possess color and a range of other pigment characteristics. These characteristics include light resistance, water resistance, acid resistance, alkali resistance, solvent resistance, weather resistance, crystal stability, dispersibility, and hiding power. These are important indicators of pigment performance.

Compared to general inorganic pigments, organic pigments have higher tinting strength, are easier to grind and disperse, are less prone to settling, and exhibit brighter colors. However, they generally have poorer light resistance, heat resistance, and weather resistance.

Organic pigments are widely used for coloring materials such as inks, coatings, rubber products, plastic products, culture and educational supplies, and construction materials.

The main types of organic pigments include the following:

Azo pigments: These are the most numerous and highest-yielding type of organic pigments.

Lake pigments: These are pigments formed by precipitating water-soluble dyes with inorganic salts, acids, carriers, or other precipitating agents to create water-insoluble pigments. They exhibit brighter hues, a broader color spectrum, and lower production costs.

Phthalocyanine pigments: These primarily come in blue and green colors, with the main variety being copper phthalocyanine (C.I. Pigment Blue 15). Different processing methods of copper phthalocyanine can yield commercial products with various crystal forms.

Quinacridone pigments: These pigments have heat resistance, light resistance, and brightness levels comparable to phthalocyanine pigments. They are commonly referred to as phthalocyanine red and phthalocyanine violet.

In addition, organic pigments include other types with excellent properties, such as dioxazine pigments, isoindolinone pigments, and benzimidazolone pigments.
